Discussion - Is There Someone Out There For Me?
"But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." - Matthew 6:33
We explored in last week's bible study how the most important relationship one can have in life is one with God. We go through many stages with Him, but in the end we find that is actually US that really cause the problems whereas God has, is, and will forever be the same God.
So why do we go through so many problems with our relationship with God? As a good friend of mine (Jasmine) once said, maybe it's because we compare our relationship with God to our relationships with people.
We have to remember, God is not like us on earth. God is perfect in every way. He never has and never will make a mistake. Unlike people, God always wants the best for us. This fact is made known throughout the bible and the if you can't remember anything, you can see His care and intentions for us described in John 3, verse 16.
Let's take a look at the bible verse at the very top of this post for a minute. Matthew 6:33. A simple command. Seek His kingdom AND His righteousness - ( a lot of people think just because you're trying to go to Heaven that that means something ) and ALL these things shall be added unto you. What are ALL these things? Well if you read the verses before that you will see...
- "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable. Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" - Matthew 6:26-27"And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." - Matthew 6:28-30
God knows what you need to make it in life. He is alpha and omega. The beginning and the end. The first and the last. God already knows your entire life. If we were to just SEEK HIM and focus on what HE wants for us more than what we THINK we want - we would probably begin to see what we really NEED start to show itself in our lives.
I say all of this to say - if you're not in a worldly boyfriend girlfriend relationship right now, it may be because it's not what you NEED right now. We always put more emphasis on stuff that we don't need, and allow it to consume us as opposed to being content with having what we actually need. Be patient - what God has planned for you is greater than you can imagine - however, God works in processes. He will prepare you before the blessing. He will qualify you before sending you off. Trust in God to give you what you need, when you need it. Instead of focusing on being in a relationship all of the time, try focusing on God, His Kingdom, and His righteousness. If being in a relationship is in His plans for your life it'll be included in ALL of things that shall be added unto to you.
(Just remember, when you do get that relationship... keep God first. Never forget Who put that person in your life in the first place.)
What are some things in life that you want? How does that differ from the things that you need?
I struggle with knowing the difference between what I want and what I need. Like, I know the things that I obviously need, like food and shelter and so on...but when it comes down to emotional/spiritual things I have to search a little deeper and really analyze my wants and needs. At the end of the day we have to remember that our needs should line up with God's will, and if they do not then we need to determine if we are being led by our flesh rather than letting our spirit lead.
ReplyDeleteWelllllllllllll. Come on sir! We need to have offering because you just preached! Hahaha. Ok. All jokes to the left. :) When it comes to relationships, I want it ALL! All that God wants for me. When I was reading this a scripture came to mind. I believe it is Songs of Solomon 2:7 Oh daughters of Jerusalem ,Do not awaken love before its time. That scripture not only gives us revelation on love but life. Do not awaken anything before its time. God is probably sitting on his throne looking at all our obstacles, mess ups, satans stupid plans, and says RIGHT ON TIME. Remember satan needs Gods permission when he messes with his children. Most of the time it's our own mess ups that we try to blame the enemy on. My point is, we may want things , but only God knows what we need and when we need it. Even our mistakes are on time in Gods will for our lives. It is up to us to let him take control. We have so much will power! We are more powerful than Angels. When God tells Angels to do something, they have no control, they have to obey instantly. God tells the sun to rise, it rises. God tells the wind to blow, it blows. When God tells us to do something, we have the will power to obey or not. Sheesh I didn't mean to get this deep, but Im trying to say, we need to wait on God and let his will take control in our lives. We are powerful creatures, but our power comes from God. So just let him take control.
